Biomass Burner
Building infobox error: invalid target
“ | A factory needs power, and power needs a generator. In comes the biomass generator, cleaning up your lawn, and building a better world in one fell swoop! | „ |
~ Caterina Parks's assistant Steve |
The Biomass Burner is a power generator building that generates power by burning various biomass items. These materials can be gathered from trees, shrubs, and most flora and fauna found in the world. Later these raw materials can be refined into Biomass and Solid Biofuel for higher fuel efficiency.
A standalone Biomass Burner produces 30 MW at 100% clock speed. The HUB has up to two different, smaller Biomass Burners attached to it, added by completing HUB Upgrades 1 and 5 respectively. These Biomass Burners only produce 20 MW, but also burn fuel 1.5 times slower.
The fuel consumption of Biomass Burners scales to power demand, unlike other generators. This also renders them unable to charge Power Storages.
Usage
Fuel consumption
Energy is given in MJ. 1 MW of power provides 1 MJ of power for one second. The Biomass Burner provides 30MJ of power, over 1 second, aka 30MW.
The following expandable table shows all usable fuels and their data:

Cyber Wagon (150 MW) |
Tractor (55 MW) |
Truck (75 MW) |
Explorer (90 MW) |
Chainsaw (75 MW) |

Unlike other fuel-burning generators, if power consumption is not 100%, the resource consumption is automatically lowered, meaning each fuel item burns for a longer time.
Conversion
Most fuel types can be crafted into a higher tier fuel type, increasing their energy.
- Input energy: Refers to the total energy of the items that go into one crafting process
- Output energy: Refers to the total energy of the items that come out of one crafting process
- Energy multiplier: How much energy is gained by crafting it into the next tier item.
Input Fuel | Input energy (MJ) | Output fuel | Output energy (MJ) | Energy multiplier |
---|---|---|---|---|
10 × Leaves | 150 | 5 × Biomass | 900 | 6 |
4 × Wood | 400 | 20 × Biomass | 3600 | 9 |
10 × Mycelia | 200 | 10 × Biomass | 1800 | 9 |
1 × Alien Remains | 250 | 100 × Biomass | 18,000 | 72 |
8 × Biomass | 1,440 | 4 × Solid Biofuel | 1800 | 1.25 |
For comparison, it is possible to convert Biomass and Wood into Coal for use in a Coal Generator, and Solid Biofuel into Liquid Biofuel for use in a Fuel Generator. Liquid Biofuel can further be processed into Packaged Liquid Biofuel for use in a Biomass Burner, one of the Vehicles, or the Jetpack.
Input Fuel | Input energy (MJ) | Output fuel | Output energy (MJ) | Energy multiplier | Alternate Recipe |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
5 × Biomass | 900 | 6 × Coal | 1800 | 2 | Biocoal |
1 × Wood | 100 | 10 × Coal | 3000 | 30 | Charcoal |
6 × Solid Biofuel | 2700 | 4 × Liquid Biofuel | 3000 | 1.1 | Liquid Biofuel |
Semi-automation
Biomass Power can be semi-automated by automating the crafting of Biomass or Solid Biofuel and loading into the Biomass Burner, while the collection of Leaves or Woods must be done manually.
Each Constructor crafting the following recipe can be used to sustain the following number of Biomass Burners:
Recipe | Number of Biomass Burners supported |
---|---|
Biomass (Leaves) | 6 (3) |
Biomass (Wood) | 30 (6) |
Solid Biofuel | 15 |
The values in brackets are limits due to the throughput of Mk.1 Conveyors.
Overclocking
The Biomass Burner can be overclocked using Power Shards. Overclocking increases the biomass consumption rate and produced power linearly. The same amount of power is always produced from the same input resources.
Tips
- The Biomass Burner, like all power generating buildings, behaves differently from other buildings when overclocked. See Clock Speed for more info.
- Building more Biomass Burners than necessary means the fuel consumption will be split among all of them, therefore all of them will have to be refuelled less frequently.
- It cannot charge a Power Storage because Power Storage is not a power consumer. However, building multiple Biomass Burners will act like a group of Power Storage due to their automatic throttling.
- This is especially useful for powering outposts at the very early stage, before either long power grids or railways are practical.
- The serial number of the Biomass Burner is "810-M455-GEN", which could be read as "Biomass Gen".[1]
- Introduced in Update 1.0, the Biomass Burner now has an input for conveyor belts - allowing it to be fed from a storage container or alike.
