Water is a fluid resource essential for power generation and some late-game products. It can also be used to improve the conversion rate of various ores to ingots in Refineries, once their respective alternate recipe is unlocked.

It is the first fluid the pioneer has access to, being obtained using Water Extractors built on water bodies. Extraction from Resource Wells can be unlocked in Tier 8.

Obtaining

Resource acquisition

Water is extracted from water bodies using Water Extractors. Water bodies aren't considered to be Resource Nodes, therefore they don't have a purity and it's not possible to scan for them with the Resource Scanner.

Water can also be extracted from Resource Wells using Resource Well Extractors which spread over 8 clusters. The default extraction rates are as follows:

The maximum extraction rate of Water is virtually infinite as they can be extracted from large water bodies such as sea or ponds.

Extraction energy

It takes exactly 10 MJ to extract 1 m3 of water, assuming it is extracted from water bodies and not from Resource Wells (as the latter method is not power-efficient). Further reading: Extraction energy

Usage

Power

Water is required for Coal Generators and Nuclear Power Plants, alongside their respective fuel requirements, to produce power. Different fuels don't affect the amount of Water required.

  • At 100% clock speed, Coal Generators consume Water at a rate of 45 m3/min.
  • At 100% clock speed, Nuclear Power Plants consume Water at a rate of 240 m3/min.

Tips

  • Diluting Heavy Oil Residue with Water is a good way to boost petrochemical production.
  • Sinking excess water with Wet Concrete is a simple way to prevent fluids backing up
