Crude Oil

Crude Oil is a mid-game resource found in the world. It is refined in Refineries into Plastic, Rubber and Fuel, whilst producing the Heavy Oil Residue and Polymer Resin byproducts. It is a fluid resource obtained from Resource Nodes, and is extracted using Oil Extractors instead of Miners. It can be transported via Pipelines, be packaged for conveyor transportation or be transported via trains.

Obtaining

Resource acquisition

Crude Oil can be extracted from Crude Oil Resource Nodes using Oil Extractors. It cannot be mined manually. The default extraction rates are as follows:

Node purity m3/min at 100% m3/min at 250%
Impure 60 150
Normal 120 300
Pure 240 600

This leads to the following total availability on the map:

Node
purity
Number
of nodes
Mining rate Mining rate
at 250 %
Impure 10 600 1,500
Normal 12 1,440 3,600
Pure 8 1,920 4,800
Total 30 3,960 9,900

Crude Oil can also be extracted from Resource Wells using Resource Well Extractors, which spread over 2 clusters. The default extraction rates are as follows:

Node purity m3/min at 100% m3/min at 250%
Impure 30 75
Normal 60 150
Pure 120 300

This means the following amount of Crude Oil is available:

Node
purity
Number
of nodes
Mining rate Mining rate
at 250 %
Impure 6 180 450
Normal 3 180 450
Pure 3 360 900
Total 12 720 1,800

By combining the output of both methods, the max extraction rate is 11700 m3/min.

Extraction energy

It takes about 33.32 MJ to extract 1 m3 of Crude Oil, assuming it is extracted from both Oil nodes and Resource Wells. Further reading: Extraction energy

Tips

The following Alternate Recipes can be used to notably increase efficiency of petrochemical productions:

Combined with Packaged Water, Unpackage Fuel, Residual Plastic or Residual Rubber, a closed-loop production of Plastic without any waste can be formed, potentially increasing the Crude Oil to Plastic conversion ratio to 300%. The same applies to Rubber. Empty Canisters are reused and recycled in the loop.
